What is Unity Clash?
Unity Clash is a performance made up of people from various Greek Organizations (Fraternities and Sororities), Professional Dancers, Commercial Dancers, Street Dancers, Dance crews, Dance companies, and people who just like to dance.
Traditionally, Greek organizations (Fraternities and Sororities) do not perform in the same routine or performance. Unity Clash goes against this rule and brings all Greeks together in one performance. An example that can serve as a better description is an All Star Team. While there are numerous basketball teams in existence, the All Star team includes basketball players from different teams playing together. Unlike other shows, Unity Clash is a continuous performance with many pieces combined into one. |
Inspiration for creating Unity Clash
My inspiration for Unity Clash is to revive the true essence of performing and highlighting the purpose behind it. Being both Greek and a professional dancer, myself, I have witnessed a lot of negativity within both worlds.
I have seen the highs and the lows involved and observed hatred, stealing, lying, cheating, and unnecessary drama between Greek organizations, performers, and the industry overall. Such things have not only blemished the art, but have driven people away from actually doing what they love. The art is becoming lost and performers are losing sight of the true task at hand, which involves being inspired, unified, and passionate about the art of dance and demonstrating such through love and self-expression. I believe such negativity stems from performers forgetting their roots and what initially led them to dance in the first place. They have become consumed by the negativity of the industry and/or “Greek politics.” My goal was and remains to create a piece bringing back the fun and excitement of dancing for Greek organizations, professional dancers, and dance lovers. |
